If there is one casino game that genuinely gives players the ability to reduce the house edge through skill and strategy, it is blackjack. Unlike slots or roulette, which rely entirely on luck, blackjack allows players to make decisions that directly affect the outcome of every round. That is what sets blackjack apart – and it is also why klbet5 positions blackjack as one of the flagship games on our platform for Malaysian players.
The core objective of blackjack is straightforward: get a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. If you exceed 21, you bust and lose automatically regardless of the dealer's hand. Each player competes solely against the dealer – not against other players at the same table. This means your own decisions are what matter most, not what anyone else at the table does.
Understanding card values is the first step to playing blackjack at klbet5 with confidence. Number cards 2 through 9 are worth their face value. Face cards – Jack, Queen, and King – are all worth 10. The Ace is the most flexible card in blackjack: it counts as either 1 or 11, whichever benefits your hand more. If you hold an Ace and a 7, your hand is a Soft 18 – meaning you can treat it as either 18 or 8, giving you more flexibility when deciding your next move.
A natural blackjack – drawing an Ace and a 10-value card as your first two cards – is the best possible combination. At klbet5, a natural blackjack pays 3:2, meaning a RM 100 bet returns RM 150 in winnings plus your RM 100 stake back. This is one reason why it matters to play at tables offering 3:2 rather than 6:5 payouts, as the difference directly affects your long-term RTP.
In every round of blackjack at klbet5, you'll face the following action choices: Hit means you request one more card to increase your hand value. Stand means you're satisfied with your current value and don't want any more cards. Double Down lets you double your original bet in exchange for receiving exactly one more card – after which you must stand. Split can only be used when you hold two cards of equal value – you divide them into two separate hands, each with a stake equal to your original bet.
There are also two additional options available at the Classic Blackjack table on klbet5. Insurance can be taken when the dealer's first card is an Ace – you wager half your original bet that the dealer holds a natural blackjack. If correct, Insurance pays 2:1, but you lose your original bet. Surrender allows you to give up half your bet and exit the round before drawing more cards – useful when you hold a weak hand such as 15 or 16 against a strong dealer card like a 9, 10, or Ace.
Blackjack played with correct basic strategy carries a house edge as low as 0.5% – meaning an RTP of 99.5%. That is significantly better than slots (average RTP 96%), European roulette (97.3%), or even baccarat (98.9%). The difference between 0.5% and 3–4% may seem small, but over the long run it has a substantial impact on your account balance.
The key is "basic strategy" – a set of mathematically optimal decisions for every combination of player hand and visible dealer card. Basic strategy does not require card counting; it is simply a decision chart that anyone can learn and apply. klbet5 provides a free basic strategy chart on this page to help our players make smarter decisions at the table.

All payouts below are based on the klbet5 Classic Blackjack table using a 6-deck shoe.
| Situation | Payout | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Natural Blackjack | 3:2 | Ace + 10-value |
| Regular Win | 1:1 | Closer to 21 |
| Push (Tie) | Return to Player | Push |
| Insurance | 2:1 | Dealer BJ only |
| Double Down Win | 2x Bet | Double your bet |
| Late Surrender | 50% Back | Before Hit/Stand |
RTP of 99.5% is only achievable through consistent and correct application of basic strategy.
From basic strategy for beginners to bankroll management approaches – everything you need.
Follow the mathematically optimal decision chart for every hand combination. This alone is enough to bring the house edge down to 0.5% – no memorisation of anything else required.
Most ImportantSet a daily loss limit (for example, 20% of your balance) and a winning target to cash out. Never chase losses – it is the most damaging habit a blackjack player can develop.
Must-Follow PracticeDouble Down aggressively on 10 and 11 whenever the strategy chart allows – especially when the dealer is showing a weak card (2–6). This is one of the primary ways players gain an edge.
ModerateAlways Split Aces and 8s. Never Split 10s or 5s. For all other pairs, follow the basic strategy chart – the correct decision varies depending on the dealer's upcard.
TechnicalLate Surrender on a hand of 15 against a dealer 10, and a hand of 16 against a dealer 9, 10 or Ace, is the mathematically correct decision. Many players let their ego stop them from Surrendering – that is a mistake.
Often OverlookedInsurance looks like a safe move when the dealer shows an Ace, but it is actually a side bet with a 7.4% house edge. Players using basic strategy almost never take Insurance.
